Relationship and Family Matters

This deliberately ambiguous name was chosen for a new group formed in 2000. Its members are chiefly Diocesan advisers working in some aspect of human relationships. Such a group originally came together out of a concern about marriage education, but quickly expanded its horizons to include other contemporary patterns of relationship as well as relationship issues arising at every stage of life, from infancy and childhood to death and bereavement.

The Group now includes the Director of WelCare, the Mothers’ Union, Diocesan Advisers in youth and children's work and minority ethnic concerns, others involved in the personal and professional care and support of clergy and their families in work and retirement, a representative from the Diocesan Gay and Lesbian Support Group and clergy with a particular interest or expertise in Marriage Preparation.

It aims to encourage inter-disciplinary awareness and cooperation between specialisms, to help those working in these fields to stay in touch with other agencies outside the Church and with changing government legislation and to offer coordinated support, advice and resources to people working on this important wide range of issues in the parishes.
