Welcome to the Faith Hope Love Resources page
The first phase of Bishop Christopher’s Call to Mission to the Diocese of Southwark is now complete, and Phase 2 is well under way. In this phase, Parishes, Chaplaincies and Schools are responding the invitation to explore ways in which the core Christian values of Faith Hope Love can be given new and further expression in our common life.
In the Phase 2 Resources section below are materials to help with this. It includes a booklet for Incumbents and individual resources covering Faith, Hope, Love and Awaydays.
The third phase of Faith Hope Love; Bishop Christopher’s Call to Mission is designed to broaden the scope of the Call. Stages One and Two encouraged individuals and then parishes to respond to Bishop Christopher’s Call to reflect upon their faith and to consider what this meant in their lives. Phase Three asks for Deaneries to consider what responding to the Call to Mission might mean in their local area and Deanery. To ask is there anything that we can do together?
The answer to these questions might lead to a short term shared piece of work. Bishop Christopher hopes that it will be this piece of work which the Deaneries will want to celebrate as Faith Hope Love is brought to a close when the Bishops and Archdeacons visit Deaneries next year. Bishop Christopher and the Area Bishops hope too that working together in this way will encourage individuals, Parishes and Deaneries to join in the final celebratory event at Pentecost 2014.
Faith Hope Love is one strand of the work which is going on in the Diocese of Southwark at present. Whilst it may be that the move to work together on a joint Deanery project might inform later developments it is not in any way a part of the proposals outlined in the Strategy for Ministry Report.
The proposal for Mission Action Planning which is to be found in the Strategy for Ministry Report and the process which was agreed at the July Diocesan Synod will begin to be further developed in the parishes from the beginning of next year. This proposal is for parishes and not for deaneries and so is distinct from Faith Hope Love.
Work on ‘Breathing New Life into the Deaneries’ is being undertaken by the group commissioned by the Bishop’s Council to take this forward and there is information about this in the September edition of the Bridge and on the Diocesan Website. As Deaneries are reinvigorated it might be that some collaborative working (of the type encouraged by FHL) can be undertaken but this is not an expected outcome of Faith Hope Love.
The Deanery Mission and Pastoral Working Groups are being established now but these have a specific piece of strategic work to do related to staffing and how we shape the mission and ministry of the church in each Deanery in the future. Once again there may be benefits to having worked together before but these are not related to Phase Three of Faith Hope Love which Bishop Christopher hopes will be a joyful and fulfilling time in itself.
