Community leaders meet the Prince

photo

The Prince of Wales met local community leaders from Brixton and Brick Lane as well when he went to the Admiral Duncan bar in Soho - the site of the third (and fatal) nail bomb attack.

Among those he met were members of Lambeth's Community/Police Consultative Group (left) Nicholas Long, the Rev. Ivelaw Bowman and Jennifer Douglas.

Ivelaw Bowman said "The Prince was keen to know first hand what had been happening and spent an hour with us talking".

Ivelaw Bowman, Hon.Curate at St Andrew's, Stockwell Green represents Churches Together in Brixton on the Consultative Group and is one of its Trustees.

He said "The police took us into their trust and as a result we were able to quell unfounded rumours and help unite the community in facing a common tragedy. In a strange way the bomb has done a great deal to help progress race relations in Brixton".

He was instrumental in Bishop Peter's pastoral visit to the area "which did a great deal of good to show the Church's concern. All of the Churches and leaders of other faiths have played a vital part in helping Brixton pick itself up after the tragedy - the faith community united in God's work".
