The Cathedral Shop requires volunteers to help in the shop over the weekend, Monday, Thursday and Friday. Individuals are asked to commit to either a half-day or whole day, weekly or fortnightly, working with others on a rota basis. Past retail experience would be appreciated. A full job description is below:

ROLE DESCRIPTION

Scope of the role

• To assist in running the Cathedral Shop in an effective and profitable way.
• To create a climate of welcome that reflects the Christian ethos.

Reporting line

• To the Cathedral Shop Manager

Interfaces

• The Cathedral Shop forms part of the Visitor Services team. The principal interfaces are within this team:
  • Shop staff and volunteers
  • Cathedral staff
  • Volunteer groups such as stewards, guides, day chaplains and welcomers.

Responsibilities include:

• day to day operation of the Shop including unpacking deliveries, pricing, and merchandising;
• ensuring customer service standards are met to maximise sales;
• maintaining accurate sales records through proper use of the EPOS system;
• operating a cleaning and general housekeeping rota;
• security awareness for stock and staff safety;
• ensuring a good dress code and personal hygiene standards are maintained within the team;
• assisting all staff to maintain high standards with respect to security, customer service and sales skills; and
• dealing with special customer orders and requests.

Skills and experience

• Retail experience
• Proven experience of meeting sales targets
• Creative customer service skills
• Merchandising experience
• Ability to work under pressure and display flexibility
• Ability to work with change
• Awareness of equal opportunities and diversity
