Resources for RE and worship for headteachers and staff in C of E schools

This new scheme of work has been written to support teachers in C of E primary schools. The scheme is mainly Christian and organised into half termly units that give pupils an understanding of creation, prayer and worship, the Church, the life and teachings of Jesus, old testament characters, living out the faith and Christian Festivals. There are also specific units of work covering beliefs and practices of Judaism and Islam. The two attainment targets that are common to most syllabuses are addresses in the detailed lesson plans, as are the learning objectives, activities to reinforce the learning and suggested resource materials. The work contains sufficient material for teaching and learning in the Foundation Stage and Key Stages 1 and 2. By using this scheme schools will be able to plan for excellence and continue to raise standards in religious education.

This syllabus, aimed at primary school teachers, provides a possible structure for the teaching of RE in Key Stages 1 and 2. It is based on a document published by the Diocese of Bath and Wells. The Programmes of Study within the document are intended to support teachers in the delivery of a balanced structure for the teaching of Christianity.
