Cross-Government definition of domestic violence: A Consultation

The Government has launched a consultation on whether it should make some changes to the way it defines ‘domestic violence’, and whether there is a consistent understanding of the definition across all government departments.

The Mothers Union will be sending in a response to this consultation and would like your opinions. Please click here for a pdf file containing a briefing on the proposals plus the 10 short questions.

If you are able to take part, please answer any questions you can but don’t feel obliged to answer any you are unsure about. Please do pass this on to anyone else you think may be interested in responding.

The pdf has full instructions upon where to send your responses.

Thank you

Global Village Fair

Global Village Fair is an online shopping catalogue that enables you to purchase gifts for friends of family that help people in developing countries by supporting Mothers' Union projects there.

When you give a gift from the catalogue, you are buying a virtual gift. If you choose, for example, 'Honey I'm home', you're resourcing the bee-keeping and mushroom-growing training described in the gift's outline.

You receive a card for each gift you're giving. The card has details of your gift, and comes with an envelope ready for you to personalise and send.

You can use Global Village Fair all year round for birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions.

ByeBuy Childhood

The Bailey Review is now complete and has been presented.

You may already have had a chance to read parts in the media coverage, and formed your own thoughts about it.

The Review is rather long, so if nothing else, we hope you will be able to have a look at the 14 recommendations on pages 13 - 19.

Reg Bailey has done exceedingly well and received an ovation at the General Meeting.

There are detractors, of course, and some feel that he hasn't gone far enough and others feel that the Government is again interfering with everyday life.

Nevertheless, the issue is out in the open and being discussed, and that cannot be a bad thing.

Please click here for the pdf files containing 'Taking action on the commercialisation and sexualisation of childhood: 5 things you can do in 2012' and read the latest developments in the MU ByeBuy campaign. It also includes a form to fill and send to Mary Sumner House whenever you take action!
