The Revd Canon Andrew Nunn was instituted and inducted as Rector of St Saviour and All Hallows Southwark, and installed as the Tenth Dean of Southwark on Saturday 21 January during Choral Evensong at 3pm. He succeeds the Very Revd Colin Slee who died in November 2010.

Those in the packed Cathedral were delighted to welcome the new Dean and formal greetings were made by local MP Simon Hughes, civic dignitaries, ecumenical and inter faith guests. The Dean preached a powerful sermon in which he re-iterated Southwark Cathedral's long held tradition of generous welcome to all, explaining: 'We're already that church which welcomes each of you whoever you are, because of who you are; wherever you're from, because of where you're from; whatever your tradition, because of your tradition; whatever your views, because of your views'.

Following the service the Very Revd Andrew Nunn said 'I am excited by this new challenge and to continuing to work with my colleagues here at Southwark Cathedral.I have been delighted to see so many different groups of people represented here today and it is especially good to see people from many of the parishes in the Diocese.

The Bishop of Southwark, the Rt Revd Christopher Chessun said, 'I am very glad to welcome Andrew Nunn as Dean of Southwark. He has provided strong and devoted leadership in the last fifteen months as Acting Dean and will bring renewed energy and vision to the Cathedral especially in fulfilling its role as mother church of the diocese.I look forward to working with him as a member of my Staff Team and Senior Priest in the Diocese.'
