During Choral Evensong in Southwark Cathedral on Sunday 14 April, the Bishop of Southwark, the Rt Revd Christopher Chessun, collated and the Dean of Southwark, the Very Revd Andrew Nunn, installed three new Archdeacons to serve in the Croydon and Woolwich Episcopal Areas.
The Venerable Christopher Skilton, the Venerable Alastair Cutting and the Venerable Dr Jane Steen were installed as Archdeacons of Croydon, Lewisham & Greenwich and Southwark respectively.
Prior to their installation Chris Skilton was Archdeacon of Lambeth for nine years, Alastair Cutting was Vicar of Henfield and Rector of Shermanbury & Woodmancote in Chichester Diocese and Jane Steen was Canon Chancellor of Southwark Cathedral and Canon Theologian and Diocesan Director of Ministerial Education.
During his sermon Bishop Christopher talked about the history and origins of the post of Archdeacon and said that Southwark Diocese is “blessed with the quality, skill and abilities of our Archdeacons and as the team grows again towards full strength the particular gifts, experiences and insights offered by Jane, Alastair and Chris, which are considerable, will be a blessing to us all.”
