The following were ordained to the priesthood by the Bishop of Southwark, The Rt Rev. Dr Thomas Butler, on Sunday 27 September at 11am at Southwark Cathedral.

Short Biographies:
Johan Allen (60) was born and grew up near Clapham Common and has always lived in London - apart from 3 years study in Lancaster. He is married with two grown-up sons and enjoys a wide variety of music, gardening and DIY. He is a primary teacher, working in a large Roman Catholic school in Thornton Heath. He will continue to serve his curacy at West Streatham, St James.
Jenny Attwood (56) was born in Bradford, spent her childhood in Yorkshire and Lancashire and moved to London after leaving school. She met her husband on a skiing holiday and they now have two grown-up children. She has worked at St Mary's School in Oxted for 19 years and has continued to work part-time since ordination. She enjoys the theatre and walking the dog and she will continue to serve her curacy at Lingfield, Ss Peter & Paul where she worshipped for many years.
Michael Brooks (52) will continue to serve his curacy at Sydenham, Holy Trinity & St Augustine. He is a self-supporting minister who earns his living as a GP in Bermondsey. Michael has lived in Herne Hill since 1989 and is married with three sons. He is a keen amateur musician and enjoys gardening.
Susan Charles (42) was born and brought up in Brixton and moved to Eltham when she married Peter, who is a Lay Reader at Catford, St Laurence. Sue has worked most of her career in the print industry but currently works at St Paul's Cathedral as Liturgical Secretary. She has previously obtained qualifications in both management and counselling. She will continue to serve her curacy at Eltham, Holy Trinity.
Jackie Cockfield (58). Jackie's first name is Myrtle, but she's always preferred to be called by her second name. She was born in Barbados and came to England in her late teens to train as a Nurse. Her interests include family outings, visiting friends and reading. Jackie continues to work full time as a Senior Sister in a busy Cardio-thoracic Critical Care Unit while serving her curacy at Mitcham, Ss Peter and Paul.
Julie Connell (54) grew up in Rubery, Worcestershire, close to the Lickey Hills. A love of foreign languages took her to Oxford University and then on to Germany and Spain to work in teaching, PR, commodity trading and conference planning. Married with three children, she now works at Ernest Bevin College in Tooting. She is an Associate of St Michael's Convent, Ham. Julie enjoys reading, singing, walking and travelling and will continue to serve her curacy at North Brixton, Christ Church.
Catherine Dowland-Pillinger (49) Catherine's previous professional background has been in a variety of teaching, pastoral and administrative roles in the education sector, most recently as Head of Student Services at Trinity College of Music. She is married to Eric and her interests include reading, music and cookery. She will continue to serve her curacy at Addington, St Mary the Blessed Virgin.
Jane Elliott (46) is married to Colin. They have two daughters aged 24 & 15 as well as a 5 year old granddaughter, and they live in Brockley. Jane has worked for King's College London for 13 years - currently she is Postgraduate Programmes Administrator and PDC Group Secretary. Her interests include writing odes, long walks, crossword puzzles and the theatre. She will continue to serve her curacy at Hatcham, St Catherine.
Anna Eltringham (35) grew up in the West Country, but has lived in Croydon since marrying Nigel. Despite growing up in a vicarage, her call to the ordained ministry first came though her involvement in faith-based social justice, environmental and community initiatives. She is also very interested in the part that ecumenism can play in these matters and during her studies spent 5 months at the World Council of Churches in Geneva. She enjoys gardening, long walks and time by the sea, as well as the cultural and multi-cultural life of London. She will continue to serve her curacy at South Norwood, Holy Innocents.
Linda Fox (51) was born in Mitcham, spent her childhood in Beddington and has lived in South Croydon since the mid 1980s. She is married to Phil and they have a 14 year old son. She works part-time as an administrator to the Spiritual Care Team at St Christopher's Hospice. She says she doesn't have much spare time but when she has some she enjoys walking, singing and coffee with friends. She will continue to serve her curacy at South Croydon, St Peter & St Augustine.
Barbara Gentilella (54) was born, grew up and still lives in Croydon. She is married to Bruno and they have two grown-up daughters. Her interests include reading medieval whodunnits, gardening, watching Sci-Fi and socialising. She runs her own business as a people and property carer on a part-time basis and sees her daily work as part of her calling. She will continue to serve her curacy at Shirley, St John's.
Peter Houghton (61) was born in Somerset and grew up in the Cotswolds but has now lived in Balham for over 40 years. He is married to Joan and he is a Professor in the Pharmacy Department of King's College London. He specialises in medicines and drugs from nature - especially investigating the scientific basis of traditional medicines - and plans to continue his academic work when he retires. His interests include history, natural history and cross-cultural experiences. He will continue to serve his curacy at Balham Hill, The Ascension.
Claudette McArthur (64) was born in Guyana in South America, and came to the UK in 1963 to follow a career in nursing. She qualified as a Registered General Nurse and Registered Midwife, and practised for several years as a Midwifery Sister. She then trained as a Health Visitor and worked in that field until her early retirement. Her interests include flower arranging and the theatre and she enjoys singing, Scrabble and listening to light classical music. She is serving her curacy at Norbury, St Oswald.
Brian McHenry (58) has lived in South London all his life and worked as a government lawyer for nearly 30 years, lastly as the General Counsel to the Office of Fair Trading, until taking early retirement to become a full time non-stipendiary curate at Deptford, St Paul w St Mark. He represented Southwark Diocese on the General Synod for almost a quarter of a century, for five years of which he was the Vice-Chair of the House of Laity. Brian was awarded the CBE in 2008 for public and voluntary service. His passions are history, travel, swimming and Arsenal FC (a rare concession to North London).
Nicola Riches (37) is married to Guy and they have one young daughter. She works as a Religious Education teacher and has continued to teach on a part-time basis since her ordination. Nicola enjoys gardening and has a passion for church history. She will continue to serve her curacy at Purley, St Mark (Woodcote) & St Swithun.
Sue Smith (56). Sue trained as a nurse at Great Ormond Street Hospital, spent most of her career caring for sick children and pre-term babies and eventually become a lecturer in Children's Nursing. She has recently retired from being a lecturer at King's College London. Sue's has been married to John, currently Priest-in-Charge of Merstham and Gatton, for 27 years and they have two grown-up daughters. Sue will continue to serve her curacy at Redhill, St John the Evangelist.
Alan Sykes (55) was born and brought up in Lancashire. He came to London in 1978 to study librarianship and stayed to work. He now lives in Kingston and has worked at Richmond Reference Library since 1989. Alan started to attend St Mary Magdalene (part of the Richmond Team Ministry) in 1982 and was confirmed in the same year. He has been closely involved in the life of the parish ever since. His interests include music, poetry and cricket and trying to find enough time to enjoy them! He will continue to serve his curacy in the Richmond Team Ministry.
Gill Tayleur (48) has lived and worshipped in Herne Hill, where she will continue to serve her curacy, for nearly 25 years, having come to London to study at University. Following fifteen years in Civil Service management, and after her two children were born, she was the church administrator before training for ordination. Her husband Trevor is a solicitor and a Reader in the same parish. Gill enjoys sunshine, theme parks, contemporary worship music and the company of good friends.
David Thomas (60) grew up in the Shepherd's Bush area, attending the church where Bishop Wilfred Wood served as a curate. He moved to Wandsworth in the early 1970s and began worshipping in the parish of All Saints with Holy Trinity, being licensed as a Reader in 1984, where he remained until ordination. He retired as a community nurse with Wandsworth Primary Care Trust to coincide with beginning life as an NSM Deacon. His interests include bird watching, travelling and Art appreciation. David will continue to serve his curacy in the Barnes Team Ministry.
Sue Weakley (57) trained for ordination whilst working as an IT Project Manager. She is married to Paul and is enjoying pursuing her interests, which are singing, all aspects of the theatre and many different types of crafts. She will continue to serve her curacy in the Merstham and Gatton United Benefice.
David Williams (59) was born and brought up in Morden, read history at Exeter University and initially trained as a librarian. He has spend 35 years working for the National Church Institutions of the CofE, firstly in the Council for the Care of Churches, then in the Central Board of Finance and latterly as Clerk to the General Synod and Head of the Archbishops' Council Central Secretariat. David is also a magistrate and he lives in a former Roman Catholic presbytery. His interests include art, architecture, coin collecting, walking, cycling and motor-scootering. He is serving his curacy at Redhill, St John the Evangelist.
