He trained at the Church Army Training College (1970-72) and was commissioned by Archbishop Michael Ramsey, in Southwark Cathedral, in December 1972. He worked as a Parish Worker at St. Matthew, Leicester (1972-5) and then with homeless alcoholics at St. Botolph, Aldgate in the Diocese of London (1975-79). From 1980-85 he was Head of non-residential social work at Church Army headquarters in Blackheath and during 1985 he also became Strategic Planning Officer for the Church Army - a post he held until 1989. In 1989 he was seconded to work for the Government at the Department of Trade and Industry Inner Cities Unit (1989-90).

From there he came to Southwark Diocese to work as Urban Industrial Missioner in Croydon (1990-95) and in 1995 he joined the Croydon Area Mission Team as an Industrial Mission Advisor. At present he is a social responsibility officer and Acting Executive Officer for the Southwark Diocesan Board for Church and Society.

Married to Lynda with one son, Terry Drummond is on the staff of Croydon Parish Church as a licensed minister and is also a regular contributor to the church magazine. He is Review Editor of IM Agenda, Editor of Community Health Action and a Trustee of Toc H.

Terry Drummond says of his new appointment, 'I look forward to taking up the post of PA and Lay Chaplain to the Bishop of Southwark. At a time when the Churches are being encouraged to participate in the wider debate on public policy I hope that I can assist the Bishop in this area of work and in his wider ministry both within and outside the Diocese.'

Bishop Tom comments: 'Terry is an experienced and dedicated lay minister with a wealth of knowledge about social and public affairs. He will continue to contribute a great deal to the Diocese in his new role.'
