Archbishop Emeritus Walter Khotso Makhulu, the former Archbishop of Central Africa, will be preaching at the 11am Choral Eucharist in Southwark Cathedral on Sunday 26 November.
While he held office as the Archbishop of Central Africa, Bishop Makhulu maintained a consistent line of assistance to people fighting Apartheid in South Africa. He worked closely with the governments of Scandinavia in particular and, in absolute secrecy, even from his wife and his chaplain, supplied finances and escape resources without being detected. The book 'God's Secret Agent' was written about his work.
He is the last in a series of Archbishops to preach at the Cathedral as part of its anniversary celebrations in 2006 - following the Archbishops of Brazil, Canterbury, Canada and Cape Town, and the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church of the USA.
Ends.
