David Blunkett speaks at Southwark Cathedral

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 6 May 1998

The Rt Honourable David Blunkett, Secretary of State for Education and Employment is to speak at Southwark Cathedral on Wednesday 13 May at 1.15 pm. He will be delivering the South London Industrial Mission's (SLIM) Inaugural Annual Lecture.

His subject will be ' The values underlying Government Employment Policy'. He will also comment on the progress of Welfare to Work. There will be an opportunity for questions after he has spoken. The Lecture will be presided over by Marcus Beale, Chair of SLIM. All are welcome to attend this important occasion.

SLIM was established over fifty years ago and has been an ecumenical organization for the last thirty years. It is committed to 'exploring - with churches and other faith traditions, with commerce, industry and other organizations which determine the nature of society in South London and East Surrey - the relationship between faith and work.'
