Southwark's Michaelmas Ordinations

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE  23 September 1998

An opera singer; a painter and decorator; the daughter of the former Bishop in Iran; people retired from social work, the police, teaching, the Army, a solicitor, housing managers, a former ambulance driver; a midwife; a discipline adviser - all these are among the 16 people who will be ordained deacon in Southwark Cathedral on Sunday 27 September.

In addition nine deacons who are already working in parishes within Southwark Diocese will be ordained priest in Streatham and Dulwich on Saturday 3 October.

The following will be ordained deacons by the Rt Rev Tom Butler, the new Bishop of Southwark at 11.00 am on Sunday 27 September. The Reverend John Paxton, Rector of Christ Church, Blackfriars and Senior Industrial Chaplain in the Diocese, will be conducting the retreat and preaching at the ordination service:
