Duke of Edinburgh to mark Church Centre's 40th Anniversary FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 18 February 2000 The Duke of Edinburgh will visit Christ Church Centre, Blackfriars Road, Southwark for its 40th anniversary at 3pm on Thursday 24 February. Christ Church is home to the South London Industrial Mission (SLIM) and provides a base for a number of other activities. The Duke opened the Centre on 24 February 1960. At the anniversary service, the Bishop of Woolwich, the Rt Rev Colin Buchanan, will lead prayers and give a blessing. Mike Dudding, Chair of the Marshall's Trust, the major funders of Christ Church, will speak about the centre's work with local businesses and social projects, and the Duke will make a response. There will be presentations by the Blackfriars Settlement Youth Centre, who will perform a dance, a local lady's reminiscences, "Southwark Memories", and a dialogue by the Sesame Institute, which uses drama and movement therapy to help people with a wide range of needs. The choir of the London Nautical School will also sing, and while they continue the Duke will view the displays prepared by organisations which are based in Christ Church or work in the parish. Media arrangements on the day will be on the Royal rota system and passes should be applied for through the usual channels. Ends. For further information contact: Diocesan
