Bishop of Southwark's comment on the appointment of the new Bishop of Bath & Wells

Bishop PeterOn the announcement that The Rt Rev Peter Price, the Bishop of Kingston, has been appointed the Bishop of Bath and Wells, the Bishop of Southwark, the Rt Rev Tom Butler, commented:

"Although I shall be very sorry to lose Bishop Peter from Southwark Diocese, I am delighted with his appointment as the Bishop of Bath and Wells, I am sure that he will take the Diocese forward in a positive way and wish him well as he moves on to this new work in the service of the Church of God."

BIOGRAPHY

Peter Price was born in 1944. Having been a teacher from 1966 to 1972 he trained for the priesthood at Oak Hill Theological College and was ordained deacon in 1974 and priested in 1975. He was curate of Christ Church Portsdown in the Diocese of Portsmouth from 1974 -1978. Then for two years he was the Chaplain of Scargill Community, in North Yorkshire. In 1980 he was appointed Incumbent of St Mary Magdalene Church, Addiscombe in the Diocese of Southwark. From 1988 to 1992 he was Canon Chancellor of Southwark Cathedral.

In 1992 he was appointed General Secretary of USPG and in 1997 became the Bishop of Kingston in the Diocese of Southwark.
