Cathedral Carol Sing-In FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 11 December 2001 Workers on Bankside or in the City can have a heap of fun and a wonderful celebration of Christmas next Tuesday lunchtime, December 18 at Southwark Cathedral. The Dean, the Very Rev Colin Slee leads a carol service with a difference at 12.45 pm. Working within a delightfully informal framework the Dean invites the congregation to sing all their favourite carols and read the traditional lessons. Musical accompaniment is provided by the Tudor Rose Brass Quintet, the Thursday Singers and the long-suffering Director of Music, Peter Wright. There is a retiring collection for the charity, CRISIS. The Dean treads a tightrope that only he could - pouncing on members of the congregation as readers of lessons or soloists. And all in one of the most glorious settings in London. "The Carol Sing-in seems to be remarkably popular with workers just before Christmas," says Colin Slee. "It's all a bit hazardous because it's not like a normal carol service. The people who come risk getting picked on to sing a solo, read a lesson, or jump up and down jangling their keys!" A few minutes' walk from The Globe or Tate Modern, and only a stone's throw across London Bridge from the City, historic Southwark Cathedral overlooks the Thames from the south end of London Bridge and is easily reached by rail, tube or bus. Ends. For further information contact: Diocesan
