Church & Community Development in Brockley

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 2 April 2002

The parochial church council (PCC) of St Peter's Deptford (Brockley) has accepted a bid by the Indian Orthodox Church for St Peter's Centre, which is beyond their means to repair, manage and develop.

St Peter's will use the money raised by the sale to re-order their church for community use as well as worship. They expect to provide spaces for children and youth activities, as well as meetings or events of various sizes. Plans are at a very early stage and preliminary ideas are being tested with church and civic authorities.

The Vicar of St Peter's, the Rev Corinne Tournay, says: "We welcome another faith community who will benefit from the building. It will be an enrichment of our existing ministry, involving a still wider group of people from the area. We know that the Indian Orthodox Church are also open to some community use of the premises and look forward to further contact with local people."

Ends.
