PETERTIDE ORDINATIONS IN SOUTHWARK

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 26 June 2002

The Bishop of Southwark, the Rt Rev Tom Butler will ordain 7 new deacons in Southwark Cathedral at 11.00 am on Sunday 30 June. The churches where they will serve their curacy are also shown:

Stephanie Fountain - The Good Shepherd, Tadworth (Stipendiary)
Michael (Mick) Hough - Holy Trinity, Redhill (Stipendiary)
Justine Middlemiss - St Margaret, Lee (Stipendiary)
Thomas Mark Mulryne - St James, West Streatham (Stipendiary)
Stephen (Steve) Pownall - The Parish of Herne Hill (Stipendiary)
David Walsh - St Alfege, Greenwich (Stipendiary)
Ian Welch - St Augustine, Lee (Stipendiary)

At later services on the same day the Bishop of Southwark will ordain as priests the following 7 who have been serving as deacons since last year at the churches shown:

BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES ON THE ORDINANDS

Those to be ordained deacon at Southwark Cathedral:

Stephanie Fountain, 44, of Richmond, will serve as Assistant Curate at The Good Shepherd, Tadworth.

Michael (Mick) Hough, 41, is married to Libby and they have a young daughter. He will serve as Assistant Curate at Holy Trinity, Redhill.

Justine Middlemiss, 33, is married to Guy. She will serve as Assistant Curate at St Margaret, Lee.

Thomas Mark Mulryne, 31, is married to Caroline and they live in Peckham. He will serve as Assistant Curate at St James, West Streatham.

Stephen (Steve) Pownall, 45, is married to Brenda and they have two children. He will serve as Assistant Curate at The Parish of Herne Hill.

David Walsh, 43, is married to Carys and they live in Forest Hill. He will serve as Assistant Curate at St Alfege, Greenwich.

Ian Welch, 42, is married to Sarah and they have two daughters. He will serve as Assistant Curate at St Augustine, Lee.

Those to be ordained priest at Croydon or Battersea were ordained deacon last year (at Southwark Cathedral on 1 July 2001):

Patrick Bateman, 38, is married to Alison and they have two children. He was a freelance consultant in future commodities markets in the City before training at St John's College, Nottingham. He is serving his curacy at Holy Trinity Wallington.

Andrew Cinnamond, 31, grew up in Belfast. In London he worked as an operations analyst at an investment bank, then an investment manager. Trained at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford, he is Assistant Curate at Holy Trinity Clapham.

Nicola Coleman, 39, is married to Michael. She trained at Ripon College, Cuddesdon, and serves as Assistant Curate at Croydon Parish Church. Nicola read English and Drama at Goldsmith's College and worked in the theatre for six years, mainly in the wardrobe department and stage management.

Stephen Leader, 38, was in retail sales then an auxiliary nurse. After qualifying fully as a nurse at the Royal London Hospital he became a senior nurse manager. He trained for the ministry at Ripon College, Cuddesdon and is serving his curacy at St Luke's, Battersea.

Darren Moore, 29, is married to Gladys. He read civil engineering at university. Having worked as lay assistant at Christ Church, Surbiton, he trained for the ministry at Oak Hill College and is serving his curacy at All Saints, Camberwell.

Lee Proudlove, 33, is married to Sally. He was a marketing and sales manager in television advertising before training at Trinity College, Bristol. He is Assistant Curate at St Stephen with St Michael and All Angels, Wandsworth.

Richard Wilson, 35, is married to Victoria and they have two children. He used to manage a family centre project before training at Trinity College, Bristol. He is serving his curacy in the Morden Team Ministry.
