NEW PRIESTS FOR SOUTHWARK DIOCESE 30 September 2002 The Bishop of Southwark and the Bishop of Woolwich will ordain twenty priests in Southwark Diocese on Saturday 5 October. They were all ordained deacon last year and are serving in the parishes shown. The Bishop of Southwark, the Rt Rev Tom Butler will ordain the following nine at Croydon Parish Church at 11am:

NOTE: Stipendiary means they have a salary, NSM means non-stipendiary, and OLM means ordained local ministers, who are also non-stipendiary but can serve only in their local church. SHORT BIOGRAPHIES FOLLOW … Jackie Annon, 40, is married to Frederico and they have three children. Her hobbies are singing, gardening, listening to music and doing up junk furniture. She enjoys entertaining and takes "great joy in sharing the Good News in the community when I am able" particularly with people from different cultures and traditions. She has an NVQ in floristry. (All Saints, Tooting) Sharon Blain and her husband Peter have four children and one grandchild. She is a Ward Sister at Epsom General Hospital. In the parish she has started a club for 8-14 year olds and 'Youth Fellowship' for over 14s and is a Sunday School leader. (The Good Shepherd, Tadworth) Michael Carter is retired after a long career in education, and continues to be very active. He has been a Reader, runs Alpha and Emmaus courses for the church, and is vice chair, volunteer driver and telephone duty officer with 'CARE in East Grinstead and Lingfield'. Michael is married to Joan and they have two children and five grandchildren. (St Peter & St Paul, Lingfield) Victor Cuthbert, 56, took early retirement after 19 years with the Civil Aviation Authority. In addition to his parish involvement with the PCC, deanery, house groups and as Treasurer, Victor continues voluntary chaplaincy work at a local hospital, particularly focussing on mental health issues, and with Riding for the Disabled Association. He enjoys walking, riding, concert going and visiting exhibitions. (St Matthew, Surbiton) Paul Dawson, 36, trained for the ministry at Oakhill College, London. He is married to Penelope, a GP, and they have two children. Paul formerly worked in public relations. (Emmanuel, Wimbledon (Dundonald)) Derek Harding, 52, retired after 30 years as a police officer with Surrey Constabulary. Married to Denise with two daughters, Derek enjoys working with young people and is Chaplain to the East Surrey Scout District as well as Young People's Officer for the parish. As well as being a keen chorister and bellringer, Derek has a degree in computing and technology and uses his computer and amateur radio skills running part of the international amateur radio network. (United Benefice of Godstone, South Godstone and Blindley Heath.) John Hillier, 49, is married to Audrey and they have three children. While working as an architect principally for local authorities he was joint leader of Wandsworth Borough Council's Christian Fellowship. He took early retirement and now runs his own architectural practice with one of his sons. (St Mary the Virgin, Merton) David Lambert, 35, originally trained as a car mechanic but later worked as an auxiliary district nurse. He trained for ordination at the College of the Resurrection, Mirfield, Yorkshire. (St George, Camberwell) Frances Long, 44, is married to Gregory and they have three children. She used to work as a chef / manager before training for ministry with the South East Institute for Theological Education (SEITE). (Caterham Team Ministry and the Chaplaincy at the Surrey and Sussex Healthcare Trust) Peter Milligan, 50, is married to Jane. Formerly a maths lecturer he now works as a statistician in the computing centre at King's College, London. He trained for ordination with the South East Institute for Theological Education (SEITE). (St Margaret, Putney) Sarah Mullally, 40, is married to Eamonn, and they have two children. She is a Chief Nursing Officer at the Department of Health and trained for ordination on the part-time course with the South East Institute for Theological Education (SEITE). (Battersea Fields United Benefice) Peter Organ, 29, is married to Anne-Marie. He trained for ordination at Queen's College, Birmingham and is full-time curate at St Michael's, East Wickham. Malcolm Pudney, 54, is married to Linda and they have three children. He is an electrical contractor and trained for ministry with the South East Institute for Theological Education (SEITE). (Christ Church, South Nutfield) Ruth Rainbird, 62, is married to Michael, and they have four sons and two grandsons. Ruth trained as a State Registered Nurse and for 20 years worked part-time as a counsellor with Relate. She enjoys country walks with her golden retriever, the theatre and cinema and is a member of the local reel club. She is Curate at Limpsfield & Titsey and St Mary, Tatsfield. Rosie Ratcliffe, 40, is married to Richard and has two children. She has worked as a secretary and as a pastoral assistant in a chaplaincy team. (St Matthew, Croydon) Jane Roberts, 49, is married to Martin and they two children. She works at a family centre in Merton and trained with the South East Institute for Theological Education (SEITE). (The Ascension, Pollards Hill) Eileen Serbutt is married to Robert and they have a son who is a Salvation Army officer. She is a retired secondary school head, who "tackled most jobs" at her church, from churchwarden to cleaning walls and floor after a fire. She was a Reader and much involved with the church before her ordination. She enjoys reading, the theatre and concerts and her cats. She is a singer and likes to play percussion when she has the chance. (St Mary & St John, Balham) Rachel Taylor, 41, is married to Paul and they have four children. She used to be a volunteer Chaplain at St George's Hospital, Tooting, and trained for ministry part-time with the South East Institute for Theological Education (SEITE). (St Mary, Wimbledon) Peter Turrell, 55, is married to Diane, and retired early as a civil servant after 30 years service with the DSS. He has been a churchwarden, and a home group leader and bass guitarist. From January 2001 he was responsible for ministry in the new extension to the church, which offers a variety of opportunities for people to become involved. (The Good Shepherd, Carshalton Beeches) Keith Veen, 56, is married to Nova and they have three children. He has worked for many years as Technical Services Officer with John Grooms Housing Association, a Christian-based provider of purpose-built housing for wheelchair users.
