Time
is tight for Forest Hill church
17 December 2004 When the parish of Perry Hill, St George with Christ Church & St Paul takes possession of their newly finished Church building in Vancouver Road on Monday 20 December, the countdown to Christmas will start. The empty shell must be furnished and ready to welcome worshippers for Midnight Mass in only four days - on Christmas Eve, Friday 24 December. A tall order - can it be done in time? The Rev. John Ackland, Vicar of St George's, says, "It will be a lot of hard work, but we hope to have the church finished in time for Christmas Eve". Visitors to the newly opened church will be able to see the world famous Henry Holland 'Glass Rose Window' from the old St George's Church - which has been restored, cleaned and installed in the new building; along with the Community Clock, which was paid for out of the funds originally raised to try and save the old church.
