The Bishop of Southwark, The Rt Rev. Dr Tom Butler, commenting on the sale, by the Church Commissioners, of the Octavia Hill estates said: ‘We are disappointed that, despite the many representations that they had received from all levels of the church and society, the Church Commissioners did not feel that they were able to sell the properties to a social housing provider.

‘The clergy in the parishes affected will continue to work with and support the local residents as they wait to see how this decision will affect them.’
