PETERTIDE ORDINATIONS IN
SOUTHWARK 29 June 2006 The Bishop of Southwark, the Rt Rev Tom Butler will ordain nine new deacons in Southwark Cathedral at 11am on Sunday 2 July 2006. They are all to be full-time stipendiary clergy and will serve their curacy at the churches shown:
Later on the same day the three area Bishops in Southwark Diocese will ordain as priests the following who have served for a year as deacons in the churches shown: The Bishop of Croydon, the Rt Rev Nick Baines at 3 pm in West Wickham, St Mary
The Bishop of Kingston, the Rt Rev Dr Richard Cheetham at 4 pm at St Luke’s, Battersea
The Bishop of Woolwich, the Rt Rev Christopher Chessun at 6.30pm at St Barnabas, Dulwich
Short biographies follow: Those to be ordained Deacon at Southwark Cathedral: James Ashton, 31, will serve full-time with the Horley Team Ministry. His home parish is St. Mary’s, Reigate, and he trained at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford. James enjoys football and racquet sports. He is married to Gail and they have two small children. Pamela Daniel, 53, will serve full-time at St Mark’s, Kennington after training at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford. Pamela enjoys meeting people of different nations, cultures, class backgrounds and ages, and she looks forward to the challenges, rewards and satisfaction of working in a sociologically diverse community. She has a teachable spirit and is open to learning new things that bring joy to God. Her interests are badminton, international cookery, and theatre. Nigel Dawkins, 34, whose home parish is St. Mary’s Newington, was formerly an IT consultant. He trained at Westcott House and will serve full-time at St. Mary’s, Caterham. Earlier this year Nigel spent two months in Egypt on a Muslim-Christian exchange at Al-Azhar University in Cairo. He is interested in interfaith dialogue and apologetics. Michelle Edmonds, 36, will be just moving up the road from her home parish, St Mary’s, Addington, to serve full-time at St Matthew’s, Croydon. Formerly a District Nurse, she trained at Ripon College, Cuddesdon. Michelle’s interests are Lee Abbey Camp (for 16 to 25 year olds), and she enjoys playing the guitar and singing. Caroline Glass, 48, will serve full-time at Holy Trinity, Redhill which is also her home parish. An ex-teacher, she trained at Trinity College, Bristol. Caroline’s interests include travel, theatre and singing. Benjamin Goodyear, 30, will be serving full-time at The Ascension, Balham Hill. He trained at Ridley Hall, Cambridge, and his home parish is All Saints, Camberwell. He is married to Rachel and they have two young children. Benjamin’s interests are football and playing guitar. Andrew Moughtin-Mumby, 27, was born in Montego Bay, Jamaica, and has lived in England since 1979. He holds both UK and Jamaican nationality. He will serve full-time at St Christopher's Walworth. Andrew trained at Westcott House in Cambridge. Music is an important part of Andrew's life, and he also enjoys film. He has recently married Sharon. Sharon Moughtin-Mumby, 30, was born in Durham, and is the daughter of a priest. While doing research at Oxford, she taught people who were preparing for ordination before becoming one herself. Sharon and Andrew met as students at Westcott House in Cambridge, and they married earlier this year. Sharon writes poetry, reads and runs, while she and Andrew share a love of music. She will serve full-time at St Peter's, Walworth. Robert Stanier, 31, whose home parish is St Michael’s, Barnes, used to be a Strategic Consultant. He trained at Westcott House, Cambridge, and will serve full-time at St George with Christ Church & St Paul, Perry Hill. Robert will be married in August to Madelaine. He enjoys watching TV, cricket, sixties pop music and ancient history. Those to be ordained Priest at West Wickham, Battersea or Dulwich Ann Brodie, 51, was a teacher for 26 years and expected to be there until retirement, but says “God had other plans!” She trained at St John’s College, Nottingham and serves full-time at St Margaret’s, Putney. She has a continuing interest in education, and lists other interests as: quizzes, walking, cross-stitch and watching sport. Marian Curtis, 52, is married to Ian and has three adult children. She has been a social worker and overseas development worker, living and working in Kenya, Nepal, India & Mozambique. She studied theology at Trinity College, Bristol and is curate at St Michael’s with All Angels, Blackheath Park. Interests include: Tennis, walking, sewing, overseas development & justice issues. Howard Gilbert, 32, enjoys skiing, hill walking & rock climbing, and he and his wife Susannah are involved with a charity which enables disabled children to go on activity holidays to the Alps. Formerly an independent financial advisor, he trained at Ripon College, Cuddesdon, and serves his title at St Barnabas, Dulwich. Ravi Holy, 37, is married to Nikki and they have three-year old twins. He won a scholarship to Eton, and was lead singer in a punk band then a blues/gospel band. His first job was as a private investigator, but he later became an IT Recruitment Consultant before training at Trinity College, Bristol. He serves as curate at St Luke’s, Battersea. He has a special interest in film, and intends to set up a film club when he takes up his post. Jane Kustner, 51, worked as a chartered accountant, mostly in the City where she was involved in sales training and marketing. She has a concern for global economic justice, and lists other interests as theatre and drama, including the use of visual arts in worship, as well as a wide range of music, trying to keep fit by swimming, running, walking and dancing, and live entertainment. Jane trained at St Stephen’s House and is curate at St John with St Andrew, Waterloo. She has a grown-up son. Matthew Prior, 31, has worked with Pecan, a Christian organisation based in Peckham, as well as CMS and Tearfund. He trained at Trinity College, Bristol and is married to Esther who is already ordained. They both serve as curates at St John’s with Holy Trinity, Deptford. Matthew is interested in international issues, languages and sport. Gail Souppouris, 53, is married with four adult children. She worked in the social care sector for twenty years, qualifying in care management / social work and became a team manager. She was licensed as a Reader in 1999 and trained for ordination at SEITE (the South East Institute for Theological Education). She serves as curate at St Francis with St Mary, West Wickham.
