‘UP ON THE ROOF’ - EXTREME
CELLISTS PLAY AT SOUTHWARK CATHEDRAL 28 July 2006 Passers-by may not have been surprised to hear cello music coming from Southwark Cathedral on Thursday 27 July – that sort of thing happens quite often – but it must have come as a shock to discover that the music was coming from the roof! The Extreme Cellists - Jeremy, Clare and James - gave their short rooftop recital at Southwark: the 16th stop on their ‘Cathedral Roof Tour’ which is taking in all 42 Anglican Cathedrals in just 12 days. Included in the programme were ‘Up On The Roof’ and ‘I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles’ - two of the Sheffield-based group are West Ham supporters and Southwark was their first stop in London - as well as a more traditional cello piece by Beethoven. The tour does have a serious purpose too, as the group are raising money for two charities: Shelter and Aspire (support and rehabilitation for people with spinal cord injury). When the tour finishes on Friday 4 August in Carlisle, the Extreme Cellists will have travelled more than 1900 miles and hope to have raised a significant sum for these two good causes. Ends.
