Archbishop of Canterbury
to preach and preside at southwark cathedral 7 September 2006 The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams will be preaching and presiding at the 11am Choral Eucharist in Southwark Cathedral on Sunday 10 September. Dr Williams’ visit is the highlight of the Cathedral’s Patronal Festival weekend, which also includes receptions to say thank you to donors and to the many volunteers who work for the Cathedral. The Archbishop, accompanied by his wife, Jane, will travel from Lambeth Palace to London Bridge City Pier on the motor launch Zodiac, built in Twickenham in the style of the 1920’s, but powered by twin 215hp diesel engines. They will be met by the Dean and Chapter of the Cathedral. They will then process along the riverfront to the Cathedral. Following the service and coffee in the courtyard the Archbishop and Mrs Williams will have lunch with the Cathedral ‘newgroup’ which is a group of under thirties who are new to the Cathedral. Dr Williams’ is the latest in a series of Archbishops to preach at the Cathedral as part of its anniversary celebrations in 2006 - following the Archbishop of Canada and the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church of the USA - with the Archbishops of Brazil and Cape Town still to come. Ends. Diocesan
