that she can continue her passion for music. Mary Bowden, 54, grew up in
Chichester but has lived in London since leaving university, where
she studied English. She spent 30 years in the Civil Service,
mainly in the Home Office, and worked briefly in the Magistrates’
Court Service, but for the last year she has been combining work
as a pastoral assistant in her parish with membership of the
Parole Board. Mary has been attending Christ Church for 14 years,
ever since one of her two sons expressed a sudden desire to go to
church and she decided to humour him, little thinking where this
would lead! Her interests include film, theatre and reading. Sharon Greenwood, 49, was
raised in Peckham, South East London. She trained as a teacher and
returned to North Peckham Estate where she taught for 5 years. She
was then employed by London Diocese as a Children’s Adviser where
she worked for 9 years. Married with 2 children, Sharon is now a
supply teacher working in the boroughs of Greenwich, Bexley and
Dartford. She enjoys reading and decorating, listening to music
and having quality time with her family. Richard Hinder, 61, was born
in Gloucester and grew up in Somerset. He read Physics at
Birmingham University, followed by a PhD in natural sciences at
Cambridge University. As a scientist and Chartered Engineer he has
worked in the Civil and Diplomatic services, and in the private
and charity sectors in the UK and internationally. His interests
include astronomy, music and walking. Richard’s wife, Margaret, is
a teacher of music, and they have two children who are now in
their early twenties. Amrela Massiah, 47, was born
in Barbados and her first full-time job was as a special needs
teacher at a private school. She came to live in the UK ten years
ago, and studied at the London School of Economics, where she
obtained an MSc in Sociology. She has trained for the past two
years at Westcott House, Cambridge where she was awarded an MPhil.
Among her interests are creative writing, music and walking. Caroline Mullins, 51, was
born and brought up in London. She came to faith at school and in
her late teens had a sense of vocation to the priesthood, although
women were not in a position to be ordained at the time. Since
then she has been variously a teacher, secretary, mother, lay
reader and biker. Caroline enjoys going to the theatre and goes
swimming because it’s good for her! Dele Ogunyemi, 51, was born
and grew up in Nigeria and he and his family moved to Britain in
1992. He is married to Oluwaremilekun and they have three
children. He works as a telecommunication engineer with T-Mobile
UK. Ada Onyekwelu, 53, is from

there, and they have four children aged from 17 to 23 years. Ada
is a nurse by profession and works with the NHS. She loves

born in Bexleyheath and grew up in Blackheath. She worked for many
years in finance in the City. Her interests include drama and

began her career in the Diplomatic Service and met her husband
Roland – a fellow diplomat - on a posting to Moscow. They have two
grown-up daughters. The family’s life has been shaped by postings
abroad, including Brussels, Berlin and Kiev. Katharine worked as a
language teacher and as Family Welfare Officer in the Foreign
Office. She enjoys painting, walking and the theatre. Katharine
has been a member of St Luke’s, Battersea since 1988 where she has
been licensed as a Reader since 1996. Stephanie Warner, 58, was
born in Kingston, Jamaica and came to England in 1962 where she
gained a diploma in fashion design and technology. Returning to
Jamaica in 1974, she met and married Douglas, and worked
throughout the Caribbean on social and skills development
programmes founded by the World Bank. They returned to the UK in
1991. Stephanie’s studies for a degree in fashion led her to the
designing of clothes for women clerics, and she first felt a sense
of call while researching into this project. Stephanie was
licensed as a Reader to St John the Baptist, Eltham in 2001. Sadly
her husband died whilst she was training for the ministry. Linda Williams, 50, is a
Teaching Assistant in her local infant and nursery school in
Coulsdon where she has lived with her husband, Nigel, and daughter
Victoria for the last 15 years. Linda holds a degree in European
Studies. Whilst training for ordination she also studied at the
World Council of Churches’ Ecumenical Institute, Geneva for half
of her final year, achieving the Post-Graduate Certificate in
Ecumenical Studies. So, no surprise to discover that, though born
and brought up around Kent, Linda has a European background,
speaks a couple of European languages and is a Europhile through
and through! Jean Yearwood, 64, was born
and grew up on the island of St Vincent in the Caribbean. She came
to England in 1968 to pursue a career in nursing and midwifery.

to work part-time as a Midwifery Manager at King’s College
Hospital, London. She is a member of the Southwark Diocesan
Cursillo Movement, which helps her to have a deeper relationship
with God. Jean’s leisure interests include listening to music,
brisk walking and going on holiday. Ends
