London Christians visit Morden Hall Park

The London Churches Environmental Network (LCEN)

In the autumn Christians have always given a particular emphasis to the benefits God's Creation has given us, and we celebrate this season as "Creation Time".

The London Churches Environmental Network (LCEN) aims to encourage Christians to enjoy the wonders of God's Creation which we see in our natural and built environment, and to show that caring for it is a central part of our faith and witness which we take seriously. The LCEN's programme gives opportunities for Christians of all denominations, ages, races and gender in Greater London to meet, learn from each other and share and discuss their experiences. Since 2008 LCEN have held walks to celebrate Creation Time on the London Loop; on Runway 3 at Heathrow; from Addington to BedZed; and on the Greenway, Olympic Park and Three Mills Island.

This year's Creation Time event is a visit to Morden Hall Park on Saturday September 8, 2012.

We will meet at St. George's Church in Central Road, Morden, SM4 5RJ for coffee from 10.30 and a service at 11 o'clock.

Morden Hall Park is a National Trust property – admission is free. The Trust has always had an environmental focus, and is giving an up-to-date emphasis on the environment at Morden. A speaker from the Trust will explain how it is conducting its activities on the site in a sustainable fashion; (its features include environmental education, hydro-electricity, a deer park, a city farm and the Wandle Valley's industrial heritage).

We can use the restaurant there or eat a picnic lunch if we have brought one, and will continue along the River Wandle to Deen City Farm and Abbey Mills, which has a craft market, a William Morris heritage and another hydro-electric installation.

The length of the walk from St. George's to Abbey Mills is 1.5 miles, but we are likely to cover more ground as we visit points of interest in the park and walk round Deen City Farm.

St. George's Church is 0.5 mile from Morden station (Northern Line), a little further from Morden South (Wimbledon-Sutton line) or from Phipps Bridge (Croydon Tramlink), and  many bus routes serve Morden.

Abbey Mills is 0.5 mile from Colliers Wood (Northern Line) or 0.75 mile from Phipps Bridge (Tramlink).

Jess Gold in concert at St John's

WATERLOO

The Animated Earth Concert Tour is coming to Waterloo!

Singer songwriter Jess Gold has produced a new album of unashamedly eco-focussed songs performed with the specific intention of  making people feel good. She's launching the album with a national tour, coming to St John's Waterloo on Sunday 23 September at 7.30.

Produced by, and performed with George Christie, these eclectic songs will delight environmentalists everywhere. A clear vision is brought to life through catchy fresh melodies offered up with a generous sprinkling of gentle wit.

During the show cartoonist Danny Fenster will bring to life random audience offerings in the creation of a unique satirical cartoon.
