Introduction to parish
At the Ascension you will find a very mixed group of people, discovering together the difference that a relationship with God through Jesus makes to their lives, and trying to work out what it means to be a vibrant Christian community, living in South West London at the beginning of the 21st Century.
We are an Anglican Church within the Diocese of Southwark and the Deanery of Tooting, serving a mainly residential parish on the south side of Clapham Common. Basically evangelical and charismatic, but with openness to other traditions, the Ascension is one of the Holy Trinity Brompton 'Home Focus' group of churches.
At the heart of our church life is a desire to worship God, to grow in our knowledge and experience of him, and to serve him with passion and commitment. In particular, we want to help others to experience some of the meaning and purpose in life that we have found through Jesus.
Please take this opportunity to browse our site and find out about our vision, 'Going for Growth', and the varied ways in which this is worked out in practice. But further to that we would love to have you join us for a service or another event where we can get to know you better.

The church was built in the late nineteenth century with south transepts added latterly during the construction period. The interior has slender octagonal piers without capitals with large transepts and a narrow east aisle.
The church has been reordered to provide a central, smaller worship area that maintains the original sanctuary.
