St James' church occupies the ground floor of what was the Herald Youth Club. The congregation moved from the old St James' church (which was leased to the Laban Centre of Movement and Dance). The new church was designed to be a blending of items from the old church, such as the altar frontal, stained glass and pulpit, melded with the modern design, lighting and organ of the new worship area. The architect for this transformation was Raymond Hall with Kew Brothers as the main contractors. The church service for the Hallowing was held by the Rt Revd Ronald Bowlby, Lord Bishop of Southwark, on April 25th 1982.
