A unique church designed in a free Byzantine style and financed by two Victorian archaeologists, Dr Edwin Freshfield and Sir Henry Cosmo Bonsor. Externally the building is rather undistinguished with the exception of an unusual free-standing bell tower. Internally, the church is one of the most remarkable late Victorian churches in the country. The east end is entirely lined with marble, as is the small square baptistry at the west end. The nave is of only two bays with narrow aisle passages.
