Introduction to parish
We believe that our Christian mission is to attract and welcome people of all ages, whatever their special needs; to foster a sense of belonging; to instruct and nurture, sharing our faith within and beyond the church. We hope to develop understanding and tolerance where there are differences of outlook, always seeking to discern God's will in our lives; and to build up our love for him and one another, so that together we may boldly and faithfully proclaim the news that Christ is King.
Details of the Church
Built: 1958 - 67
Architect: David Nye
Listing: not listed
This church of Christ the King was self-built between 1958 and 1967, to a design prepared by David Nye FRIBA. The building is tile covered, tent like and based upon the use of Utile portal frames and low brick walls to a traditionally cruciform plan. The design is similar to many others commissioned from this architect and was an attempt to provide an effective place of worship at a reasonable price. The result in this case is simple and yet most impressive.
