Built: 1955 - 56
Architect: Covell & Matthews
Diocesan Record Office: London Metropolitan Archives

The church was declared redundant in 1995 and has been demolished.  The Southwark and London Diocesan Housing Association has built a new place of worship on the site together with a low-cost housing development.

Description

The church was built on the site of the church of St Andrew (severely damaged by a landmine in 1940) and the nearby church of St George, Nine Elms Lane, which was also damaged by bombing in 1940.

"This church, in the new Patmore Estate, takes the place of two nineteenth-century churches, now demolished. St George's ..... and  St Andrew's ....

The new church was designed by Covell and Matthews, and the foundation stone was laid on 23 April 1955.

It has the usual concrete frame, and rather long windows. A tower-porch, with a copper-covered spire, at the north-west; and a sanctuary with a raised roof, lit from the top. The glass is by W. Carter Shapland. The seats and the organ came from St George's."

(from 'Parish Churches of London', Basil F L Clarke, Batsford, 1966)
