Battersea
St George the Martyr

Sorry - picture not available

Nine Elms Lane
Battersea
London
SW8

Built: 1827 - 28
Architect: Edward Blore
Diocesan Record Office: London Metropolitan Archives

The church was damaged by bombing in 1940 and subsequently demolished.  It was replaced by the church of Battersea, St George with St Andrew.

Description

"St George's was designed by Edward Blore, and enlarged with a chancel in 1874.  The district became hopelessly dreary, and the church was not needed."

(from 'Parish Churches of London', Basil F L Clarke, Batsford, 1966)
