Newington
All Souls

Sorry - picture not available

Grosvenor Park
London
SE5

Built: 1870 - 71
Architect: H Jarvis & Sons
Diocesan Record Office: London Metropolitan Archives

The church was made redundant and demolished in 1973. The building was within the present parish of Camberwell, St Michael & All Angels, & All Souls with Emmanuel.

Description

"All Souls’ is a very large and lofty church, built in 1870-1, by H Jarvis and Son, of stock brick, cruciform, with a central tower which stands well up above the houses: as yet there are no blocks of flats near enough to humble its pride.

The inside is spacious (two bays of the nave are screened off at the west), and not unimpressive. It was redecorated in 1925, and after the War. There is very little to take notes on, except perhaps the paintings of Old and New Testament worthies in the spandrels of the arcade."

(from 'Parish Churches of London', Basil F L Clarke, Batsford, 1966)
