Kennington Road
London
SE1

Built: 1862 - 63
Architect: H E Coe
Diocesan Record Office: London Metropolitan Archives

The church was demolished in 1976. The building was in the North Lambeth parish.

Description

"A fund was opened at the end of 1849 as a thanksgiving for preservation in the cholera epidemic; but the church was not begun until 1862. It was consecrated on 2 June 1863. The cost was £8,500. The architect was H E Coe. It is rag-faced, with slate roofs, in fourteenth-century style. It has a low south-west tower, with an octagonal top stage: the spire was replaced by a copper roof in 1960.

A faculty was given on 20 June 1913 for a choir vestry, south chapel, oak screen between chancel and chapel, and a new pulpit. The architect was H S Rogers.

The interior was whitened in the 1920s, roofs and all."
