Tooting Deanery
Rev Kevin Parkes
The Tooting Deanery is a very mixed area both racially and socially, with large contingents from Asian, African, Afro-Caribbean and European populations. Housing includes council flats, multiple occupancy, and owner occupation from starter homes to the large properties near Wandsworth Common. It is also an area of rapid population change. The Deanery population is approximately 81,000 served by 11 parishes. There are several large institutions in the Deanery including St George's Hospital and Wandsworth Prison. The commercial centre is Tooting Broadway and High Street, with shopping more significant in small shops and merchants rather than large stores. The Deanery has a growing coherence in terms of mission and witness.
