Spiritual Growth in the Local Church

My house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples.  [Isaiah 56: 4-7]

House of Prayer

House of Prayer aims to help local churches root their life and mission in openness to God. It also seeks to foster spiritual exploration and growth among church members and visitors through encouraging and enabling the practice of regular prayer.

There are two complementary strands to the House of Prayer initiative:

A Way to Live:
Creating a structured but flexible ‘Way of Life’ for the church community that expresses and enables openness to God in all aspects of congregational life.

From this common Way of Life, church members are helped to draw up their own rule of life, adapted to their individual circumstances. Click here for more details.

Sacred Space:
Creating within our church buildings and grounds the environment and tools to help people begin and go on with prayer.

  • developing dedicated physical spaces for prayer
  • creating dedicated times for prayer when the church is open
  • use of sensory aids to encourage prayer
  • providing a variety of prayer exercises and accessible written guidance on prayer within prayer spaces within the church and grounds
  • developing regular groups for prayer, faith sharing and biblical reflection
