2012 marks the 60th anniversary of the Accession to the throne of Queen Elizabeth II.
To mark the occasion a special prayer has been written by the Chapter of St Paul’s Cathedral which will be used in the Jubilee Thanksgiving Service at St Paul’s Cathedral on Tuesday, 5 June. The Archbishops of Canterbury and York have commended it for use throughout the Church of England. Other churches are also welcome to use the prayer:
God of time and eternity,
whose Son reigns as servant, not master;
we give you thanks and praise
that you have blessed this Nation, the Realms and Territories
our beloved and glorious Queen.
In this year of Jubilee,
grant her your gifts of love and joy and peace
as she continues in faithful obedience to you, her Lord and God
and in devoted service to her lands and peoples,
and those of the Commonwealth,
now and all the days of her life;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.

The Big Thank You letters which can be found at http://tiny.cc/nfajbw are being collected by Southwark Cathedral so that we can send all the letters off to Church House Westminster together. They need to go to Church House Westminster by 30 June 2012 - so could you please make sure that all your thank you letters are with the Cathedral by Monday 18 June. They should be sent to The Big Thank You at Southwark Cathedral, London Bridge, London SE1 9DA.
The Big Lunch is a very simple idea from the Eden Project that is championed ecumenically by HOPE. The aim is to get as many people as possible across the whole of the UK to have lunch with their neighbours in a simple act of community, friendship and fun.
Last year it took place on Sunday 5 June when the best part of two million people took part.
In 2012 it falls on the same weekend as The Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations on Sunday 3 June. Your church could play a major role in making this the biggest Big Lunch ever, by either hosting or taking part in a Big Lunch in your parish.
For details on how to register and get in involved visit The Big Lunch's website.
Invite everyone to watch the Jubilee Thanksgiving Service
The Jubilee Thanksgiving Service at 10.30am on Tuesday, 5th June at St Paul's Cathedral promises to be a special event for the Church and indeed the whole country. As the service will be screened on national television, many churches are planning to host community celebrations, showing the service on a big screen and perhaps giving people a chance to join in by singing the hymns and following the words and responses on specially printed sheets. (Please note that the order of service will be released by St Paul's a week in advance.)
TV licensing has announced that churches do not need a TV licence to show the service on a big screen inside a church - when a TV which is normally licensed at another address is taken into a community hall or a church just for the day of the Jubilee.
