Zimbabwean Youth Visit - organisers need your help

In 1999 a group of seven young people and three adults from Southwark visited the three link Dioceses in Zimbabwe (photo below).

They received hospitality of a very high standard with no stone being left unturned to ensure a happy and memorable tour.

It is now Southwark's turn to show appreciation with a reciprocal visit this summer for twelve young people and three leaders representing the three Dioceses in Zimbabwe which are linked to the three areas in Southwark Diocese. Financial assistance, offers of accommodation, mini-bus transport, food parcels, meetings with youth groups etc. are needed to make this visit a success.

Offers of help or for further information please contact: Ralph Straker at Trundle Street on 0207 403 6758 or Kingston Area Office Debbie Welch 0207 403 6758 or Rev Lukas Wanjie Croydon Area Office on 0208 681 5496

Palm crosses from Africa

Sales of palm crosses from Kwa Zulu, South Africa, to churches in the UK last year earned £18,000 in wages for the workers and for the local hospital appeal.

The crosses, made in Nongoma, Zululand, are bookmark size and available in multiples of 50. The organizers of the scheme, Emmanuel Church, Northampton, invite a donation of £10 per 100 and in 2000 over 400,000 were distributed throughout the UK raising £18,000.

Order forms are now available from: Palm Cross Administration Office, Emmanuel Church, Weston Favell Centre, Northampton NN3 8JR. Tel: 01604 401010 Fax: 01604 401034. Email: emmmteam@talk21.com
