Event intended for:
All those, clergy and lay, involved in leadership in worship,
children’s and youth work – primarily for Woolwich Area.
Content of event:
Demonstrating creative resources and ideas, including labyrinth,
liquid worship, ‘uncommon worship’, godly play, parachute games,
puppets etc. Also display of other resources
Aims:
Offering participants the chance to experience a variety of creative
ways of worship and learning, and to discover and use resources on
offer.
Learning objectives of course:
Helping participants to take back new ideas to their parishes.
Teaching methods:
Demonstration, display, participatory experience, having fun!

Course intended for:
Clergy, Readers; leaders of worship with all ages present.
Content of Course:
Form, structure content and planning of all age worship; exploration
of the questions ‘what is good worship?’ & ‘what is good liturgy?’
reflection on children’s spirituality.
Aims:
1. To explore what is worship/what is liturgy;
2. Issues & challenges of all age worship;
3. Ages and stages (faith as journey & children’s spirituality, and
4. Practicalities & pitfalls of creating significant acts of worship
for all ages.
Learning objectives of course:
By the end of the session, participants should :
1. be more aware of children’s spiritual development and the impact of
this on planning and content of acts of worship (we will look at
Eucharistic & non-Eucharistic worship);
2. be more confident in their approach to creating all age worship,
and
3. know about limits & freedoms (including Canon law!!)
Teaching methods:
Lecture/presentations, whole group discussions & small groups

‘The Spirit of the Child’ (Hay & Nye) – out of print so would need to
be obtained from a library.

are involved in leading Collective
Worship in Primary Schools.
Content of Course:
Pupil’s spiritual development and faith responses
Being a supportive visitor in school
The definition and structure of collective worship
A basketful of practical ideas for delivery and examples of themes
Resource browsing, personal reflection and planning
Aims:
That attendees will gain skills to build their confidence and ability
in leading collective worship as well as identify aspects of their
personal style and attributes that will lead to greater fulfilment in
this important area of their ministry
Learning objectives of course:
To be equipped to support the spiritual development of pupils in
primary schools
Develop personal skills for leading worship in primary schools
Reflect on personal contribution to collection worship in a school
Teaching methods:
Teaching whole group using power point, video question and answer
Buzz groups discussions and feedback
Personal reflection time and resource browsing
This variety of teaching methods will also be used to exemplify ways
of engaging pupils with different learning styles during collective
worship

Biblical principles for youth outreach, together with practical issues

To increase the vision and effectiveness of churches in reaching under
25s, and to challenge attitudes that hinder them from hearing and
responding to the gospel of Christ

To gain fresh ideas and vision both from Pete and from other
participants

That all Scripture is God breathed (2 Tim 3:16). Therefore when we
read the Bible we are reading what God has to say as well as what the
human authors intend. This means that the Bible is useful for ministry

“pram service”, crčches, family services and the structures for

Content of Course:
An exploration of the nature of children’s spirituality and the
implications for faith nurture and worship
Aims:
This day will explore theological perspectives on the spirituality and
faith development of children and adults and will provide
opportunities to consider how we can best enable the spiritual life of
children to deepen and flourish.
Learning objectives of course:
To enable participants to reflect theologically on children’s
spirituality and children’s faith development and to consider a
variety of perspectives on the place of children in the worshipping
community.
To provide insight into current thinking and practice in children’s
spirituality
To enable participants to evaluate their current practice and faith
nurture in the light of theology and recent liturgical developments.
To equip participants to reflect theologically on their work and
worship with children and to apply new understandings of children’s
spirituality to this.

An introduction to alternative and multimedia worship within a
parochial context, exploring especially how this works within a
sacramental tradition
Aims:
To encourage creative thinking in this area
To think about how traditional approaches to the Liturgy and be
released in new ways
Ways of encouraging the participation of young people
Encourage contextual engagement
To share ideas and best practice
Learning objectives of course:
Developing the confidence to have a go at this type of worship
Teaching methods:
Drawing on experience and expertise of participants,
presentations, small group, work, plenary sessions, Q and A
