Aims:
To offer strategies for the effective use of time (morning)
To offer strategies for the effective administration of parish and
personal work (afternoon)
Learning objectives:
Participants should leave the morning with at least one idea for
better the more efficient use of time.
Participants should learn ways of organising their work and
administration to the extent that their systems serve the priest and
not vice versa.

Handling Building
Projects

Course intended for:
Any person, ordained or lay who has a key role in building projects in
your church.
Aims:
To advise on possibilities for use of church buildings.
To advise on the process of changing use of buildings for community
purposes.
To discuss some of the key elements of planning and working with
contractors.
Management of buildings projects.
Learning objectives:
To achieve a greater understanding of developing and
managing building projects in your church.
Teaching methods:
Input, discussion and live case study.

Course intended for:
All who have opportunity to preach, lecture or speak in public
Content of Course:
Vocal communication – look at speaking in public with confidence &
charisma. How to handle performance anxiety & connect with the
audience/congregation. To experience skills needed for effective use
of microphone.
Aims:
To create a better understanding of the voice as a communicator and to
increase confidence in public communication. To learn new skills that
will help build confidence and encourage the speaker to communicate
with strength, humour & compassion.
Learning objectives of course:
By the end of the session, participants will :
1. Have a clear idea about their purpose and intention in speaking;
2. Be able to speak in public with greater clarity and connection;
3. Be aware of their own special qualities in presenting & how to use
them, and
4. How to transform anxiety into useful energy in presenting.
Teaching methods:
Vocal & physical exercises; highly participative with opportunities to
present to group; small group work with tutor, group input &
feedback/discussion.
Assessing Course’s Effectiveness:
Tutor observation; contrastive practical sessions at beginning and
end; questions & answers; peer review and evaluation sheets.
Reading/Preparation:
Preparatory selection of personal verse/text scripture that has meant
something special. There will be a letter explaining this nearer the
date.

Course intended for:
For those who are responsible for producing orders of service,
notice sheets or publications in their parish
Content of course:
How to produce publications which communicate well and communicate the
Gospel. This will include how to use the computer in planning and
developing orders of service, how graphics and layout help or hinder,
how to make best use of the computer resources we have.
Aims:
For people to think creatively, imaginatively & realistically about
what they produce – and to see publications as a tool for mission.
Learning objectives of course:
By the end of the session, participants will :
dare to be creative; will have been given tools to think about what
they do in their parish; will have had some basic IT questions
answered.
Teaching methods:
Some lecture; discussion; examples of good practice shown; questions
answered & sharing of ideas.
Assessing course’s effectiveness:
Enthusiasm, a look of realisation that they could be doing better;
lots of questions! Feedback form.
Reading/Preparation for course ?:
Would those coming please inform us which IT programmes they are using
e.g. Microsoft Word, PageMaker, Quark Express etc.
