Other Diocesan Resources

Diocesan Training Library

This is housed in the Library of the Cathedral's new Millennium Building.

The library numbers some 7,000 volumes. It is intended primarily for those who are engaged in one of the Diocesan Courses (Diocesan Certificate in Christian Discipleship or in Theology and Biblical Study; OLM, Reader, and SPA training). However, the library may also be used by individuals, who may register with the Librarian on production of a letter of recommendation from their parish priest.

Volumes may be borrowed for up to four weeks. There is no charge for use of the Library by registered readers.

The Librarian is the Revd Anne Hoad, who is present in the Library on Mondays 8.45am - 12.45 pm and Thursdays 2.30 - 6.30 pm. The Library may also be accessed on evenings when diocesan courses are held on cathedral premises (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings in term-time), or at other times by arrangement.

Southwark Cathedral Education Centre

Founded in 1996, the Cathedral Education Centre exists for teachers and children to support them in the core subjects in the National Curriculum as well as in History and RE. It does this by offering trails, workshops and investigations, using the rich resources of the Cathedral building and the excellently equipped Education Centre next door in Montague Chambers. The Education Officer works with an extensive team of trained volunteers. The Education Centre has a particular commitment to inner-city schools and is currently extending its work from Key Stage 2 into Key Stage 3. Approximately 4,000 children a year use the Centre.
