We are based in St Matthew's House, 100 George Street, Croydon CR0 1PJ - opposite East Croydon station. This makes us easily accessible by train, tram and even by air - we are only 25 minutes from Gatwick Airport. Our offices also allow space for a chapel and a large meeting room.
The Croydon Area Mission Team comprises seven people whose charge is to serve the clergy, parishes and institutions of the Croydon Episcopal Area of the Diocese of Southwark. The Area Bishop of Croydon works closely with the Archdeacons of Croydon and Reigate, two Advisers and two PAs. We work closely together and meet regularly to spend time together as a team and discuss areas of mutual concern. The two Advisers are accountable jointly to the Croydon Area Mission Team and to the Diocesan working group or board responsible for their field of work.
What we stand for
Members of the Area Mission Team, believing that all people are made in the image and likeness of God and equally loved by him, make a commitment to justice, evangelism, mission and partnership in sharing the good news of Jesus Christ in our varied setting.
We commit ourselves to be an integrated and co-ordinated resource team, available to encourage and help in parochial ministry, through offering expertise, experience, training and resource materials and time. We commit ourselves to work collaboratively with other agencies and denominations, at all area levels from parish to borough and beyond.

Rev Barry Goodwin
Social Responsibility & Parish Development Adviser
Tel: 020 8256 9630
Fax: 020 8256 9631
Barry joined the Croydon Area Mission team in June 2005 after seventeen years of ordained parish ministry in St Albans and Southwark Dioceses. He brings this grass-roots experience to his role of Social Responsibility and Parish Development Adviser and 'Faith in the Countryside Officer'. His main task is to advise on issues of social policy and economic development within the Croydon Episcopal Area and to work in partnership with parishes to develop new and innovative projects that serve the local community. This involves helping parishes to articulate their vision, devise mission strategies as well as looking to identify and create working partnerships with statutory authorities and other faith groups. As Social Responsibility Adviser he encourages theological reflection on social and government policy, including rural social concerns, and their effect on people and parishes. He works collaboratively with other members of the Social Responsibility Team.
Since March 2007 Barry has taken on the role of Diocesan Environmental Officer seeking to implement the Diocesan Environmental policy and helping parishes to become greener. He is at present Chair of the London Churches Environmental Network and distributes a monthly Diocesan environmental newsletter Enviro-news.

Pat Rose
PA to The Bishop of Croydon
Tel: 020 8256 9632
Fax: 020 8256 9631
Pat joined the Diocese in February 1999 from a background of 30 years as a Secretary/Office Manager in the Oil and Gas Processing Industry. She started work in the Kingston Area Office as Secretary to the Archdeacons of Wandsworth and Lambeth and in October 2003 moved to the Croydon Area Office to take up the post of PA to the Bishop of Croydon. She has served her local church for a number of years in many roles including PCC Secretary and Churchwarden, all of which she thinks makes it a little easier to relate to and assist with enquiries and problems from the parishes.
Mrs Sylvia Pepperell
PA to the Archdeacons of Croydon & Reigate
Tel: 020 8256 9630
Fax: 020 8256 9631
Sylvia has been working for the diocese since 1994 as PA to Tony Davies, the Archdeacon of Croydon, and Danny Kajumba, Archdeacon of Reigate. Danny is the third Archdeacon of Reigate during this time, but Tony has managed to stay the course as Archdeacon of Croydon!
Zimbabwe Link
The Croydon Episcopal Area is linked with the Diocese of Central Zimbabwe. We have strong links with Bishop Ishmael Mukuwanda, his clergy and parishes. The Croydon-Zimbabwe Link Working Group, chaired by Hilary Brand, supports the diocese in prayer, with visits and practically in financing and encouraging projects. The current dire state of Zimbabwe under the malicious and illegitimate Mugabe regime has made our link all the more important. In 2007 the Bishop of Croydon took 20 clergy and lay people from the Croydon Episcopal Area to visit the largely rural Central Zimbabwe. Parish-to-Parish links now exist and there is a new parallel Link Group in Gweru.

Minority Ethnic Forum
When the Diocesan Minority Ethnic Anglican Concerns Committee was established it was determined that issues affecting race relations at Episcopal Area level were vitally important and that a local presence should be maintained. The Croydon Area responded to this challenge by launching a group led by the Archdeacon of Reigate.
