The Diocese of Southwark
The Diocese of Southwark is one of the 44 dioceses of the Church of England, which is the Anglican (Episcopalian) Church. We are in the Province of Canterbury and are part of the worldwide Anglican Communion which has nearly 70 million members. The Diocese of Southwark is twinned with three Anglican Dioceses in Zimbabwe.
The people of God in Southwark Diocese - laity and clergy together - are called to:
Pray for the renewing power and love of the Holy Spirit in our worship, work and witness,
Seek the Kingdom - Seek the rule of God in our lives, our church, our communities, the life of the earth and the whole of creation,
Share the Faith - proclaiming the Good News, teaching and nurturing new believers, making disciples and equipping them for service,
Search for Truth - open to God's Word, exploring God's activity in different contexts and cultures,
Serve our Neighbour - responding to human need by loving service and by confronting the unjust structures of society
Follow Jesus - in his suffering love for the salvation of all people.
Southwark Cathedral is on the River Thames near to London Bridge, and Shakespeare's Globe Theatre.
